Irish hexies
This quilt looks a lot like an Irish chain, but is a lot easier to construct and perfect for scraps. I had a bunch of Hexie flowers I made during my last trip to Holland. I always like to have some handwork with me, so I can sit at the kitchen table and enjoy the company of my family. When I finished the quilt top, I thought the hexies would fill the light spaces nicely.
The 'modern' version of this quilt is much smaller. A nice throw for the Adirondack chairs on the last sunny-weather fall days outside. Instead of hexies, Debbie Sanford, my longarmer, quilted beautiful feather wreaths in the centers. The hard part, with all these bright colors, was choosing the binding -especially since I wanted to use something from my stash, but I think the green works quite well.
And a totally different look with batiks and flower appliques in the center.
